The Comics Code Authority (CCA) was started in 1954. The CCA didn’t really provide a ratings system, but more of a code that comic book publishers had to follow. The code was very restrictive causing some comics to be published without the CCA stamp of approval. Realizing that the code was too restrictive many publishers abandoned it leaving the CCA to fold in 2011.
Now that you know some of the past you can learn how we are working to be a part of the future. Our rating system is based on life stages and more information about it can be found here. The ComicBookRatings.com rating system is not restrictive. Comic book creators and publishers are free to create their own content. We do not restrict what content they can publish. Instead we will provide a rating based on the content they have chosen.
